Long Valley, New Jersey-More than 1,700 residents of Washington Township lost power on Thursday morning when a faulty lightning arrester tripped the circuit breaker.
Shortly after 9 am on Thursday, Mayor Matt Murello told his Facebook fans that JCP&L had contacted him about the power outage of approximately 1,715 residents in the service area of Newburgh Road Station.
The Washington Township Emergency Management Office notified residents at around 9:15 am that there has been an increase since Murello’s post, when 1,726 customers were affected.
At about 10:05 in the morning, the town’s Facebook page posted an update stating that all residents in the blackout area had restored power.
Murello said he was in contact with JCP&L and was told that a lightning arrester was hit and slightly damaged during the last thunderstorm, causing the circuit breaker to trip. He said that JCP&L reset the circuit breaker and plans to replace the arrester in the near future.
